Give what matters the most to you

In Genesis 32:24-29 the Bible reads, “ Afterwards, Jacob went back and spent the rest of the night alone. A man came and fought with Jacob until just before daybreak. When the man saw that he could not win, he struck Jacob on the hip and threw it out of joint.

They kept on wrestling until the man said, “Let go of me! It’s almost daylight.” “You can’t go until you bless me,” Jacob replied. Then the man asked, “What is your name?” “Jacob,” he answered. The man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob. You have wrestled with God and with men, and you have won. That’s why your name will be Israel.”

We learn from this Scripture that Jacob was blessed after fighting the angel. But before he could be blessed, he had to endure and go through pain, the pain of his hip being broken. But when the blessing came, it was worth the pain.

Many of us want blessings, but we do not want to go through the pain that it takes to get the blessing. Many give an offering to God, they want God to bless them because of that offering, but they do not want to go through the pain that it takes in order to get that blessing.

If you want God to bless you richly, you have to give an offering that you will feel even in your heart. It will pain you when you give it, just like Jacob was pained when he wrestled with the angel, but it will be worth your while when the blessing comes.

I was speaking to a lady the other day and I asked her, “I saw that you were building your house, and you stopped for a while and now you are back to building again”. The lady said to me that she had stopped building because the money that she had to build her own house, she decided to give it to the church for the building of the house of God.

She is not working, so the money that she gave, is the money that her children had given to her to build her house. She gave it all in the house of God. When her children heard of this giving of her’s they were very upset with her, they could not understand how she could do that.

But because we serve a Faithful God, The lady is now back to building her house, that amount that she had given in the house of God, she has received it back double. God has doubled her giving. Now she told me that she had to change her building plan so that she can build a bigger house.

Do you see what this God can do? It could not have been easy to give that much, especially when she was not working, but God has blessed her in the same way that He blessed Jacob. As I heard this woman’s testimony, I rejoiced and said “that is my God”.

God is able and willing to give you what you want and more. You just have to do your part and give what matters to you the most. Do not wonder to yourself how you will get to work or what you will eat, but give and know that He is able to bless you abundantly.

Today as you give, I want you to give an offering that will make you feel like your hip is broken, give what is most important to you, in that way, you will be like Jacob when he said to the angel, “I will not let you go until you bless me”.

I assure you if you give and feel the same pain as Jacob, not only will God bless you but He will also change your name. Your name will change from “Broke” to “Blessed”. Your name will change from “Poor” to “Rich”.

Give and see God do it for you.

To God be the Glory.
