Give as a descendant of Abraham

In Genesis 14: 18-20, the Bible tells us “King Melchizedek of Salem was a priest of God Most High. He brought out some bread and wine and said to Abram: “I bless you in the Name of God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. All praise belongs to God Most High for helping you defeat your enemies.” Then Abram gave Melchizedek a tenth of everything.”

We all know Abraham as a giver and a friend of God. Whenever the Bible speaks of Abraham, it tells us that he was blessed because he was a giver and a friend of God. From the scripture that we just read, we see that Abraham was the 1st person to offer tithe, because after Melchizedek blessed him, he gave him a 10th of all that he had. Abraham did this because he understood that all he had came from God, because God is the one who give power to gain wealth.

We who believe are Abraham’s descendants, he is our father. If we truly are sons and daughters, we must be like our father in every way. If our father was giver, we also have to be givers, because we resemble our father. We cannot want to enjoy Abrahams’ blessings without taking his responsibilities.

I often think about the greatness of God who created heaven and earth, and everything that is in it. God created heaven and earth for us, and also created everything, including employment and businesses, for us. God also gave us wisdom to be able to manage all that he has created for us. This wisdom came from His Word, which He gave us to guide and direct our paths. Everything that comes from God’s Word is essential for our daily lives.

Therefore, we are also blessed like Abraham. However, we need to give as he did so that we unlock our blessings. If our father, Abraham, was a giver then, what is stopping us from giving the way that he gave? What is stopping you to give to God? The Bible says “we are blessed going in, and we are blessed going out”. Do you ever stop and ask yourself why the Bibles says that? Because we are the descendants of Abraham who was blessed abundantly by God.

If we are truly Abraham’s descendants we should not suffer and struggle financially. When you experience suffering, it means you do not know who your father is. You do not know where you are coming from. But when you understand that you are a child of Abraham who was a giver, and most importantly you are a child of God, you would know that by giving you are blessed.

This is confirmed from John 8: 37- 40. In this verse, Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for not being attentive to His Words of truth. He told them that if they claim to be Abraham’s children, they would be honouring Him and listening to His Words instead of planning to kill Him. Jesus explained to the Pharisees that before Abraham was born, He was. And because of that Abraham honours and acknowledges Him. He urged the Pharisees to do what their father Abraham did, by honouring and listening to His Words. This brought confusion and anger to the Pharisees who wanted to stone Jesus.

In this verse, the Bible teaches us to do what our father, Abraham did. We must give as Abraham gave. We must understand that nothing in this world belongs to us. Everything that we have belongs to God. When you die and leave this world, you leave everything behind. Your wealth stays behind. You go alone as you came to this world alone. Therefore, you can save as much as you want to while you are still alive, but those savings would have no use for you when you are dead. On the day of judgement it would be just you and God, and not your wealth. On that day God will ask what you did with the wealth He gave you. You’ll be asked whether you were a solution to another person’s problem, or you were pridefully walking with the things which belongs to God.

In Matthew 6:34, the Bible says, “do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself” Do not worry about what is going to happen tomorrow. You can save and invest your money, but when you die your savings and investments would not be wisely used by your children as you would have use it. Again, the Bible in Mathew 6:19 says “Don’t store up treasures on earth! Moths and rust can destroy them, and thieves can break in and steal them. Instead, store up your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy them, and thieves cannot break in and steal them. Your heart will always be where your treasure is”

When you die your children will fight for your wealth that you have worked so hard for, but when you invest in the Kingdom of God, it will also result in them being blessed. Invest your wealth to God so that it can grow and manifest in the lives of your children as well. There is a big difference in planting to God, and saving on your own.

When you plant to God, the harvests will manifest upon your descendants, whether the devil likes it or not. That is why people would see to those who are reaping the benefits of the parents’ giving as being “lucky”. I want to tell you that luck does not have anything to do with it. Somebody or the parents have planted on that person’s behalf. We as parents have planted for our children. They would be blessed because we have planted for them, but if you save for them they would misuse the money you have saved for them. Therefore, the best thing to do is to plant for our children so that they can receive. Plant for your children so that they can be able to harvest the rich blessings of God.

God says that His blessings are Yes and Amen, which means that the blessings are all being given to us. We just need to unlock our blessings to be able to receive them. When you are giving this year, prepare an investment for you children. Give in the house of God to establish an investment for your children. That would be an investment that would never go dry.

May God bless His Word.
