The Favour of the Lord

In Genesis 39:16 to 23 we read about Joseph, who was falsely accused and jailed for a crime that he did not commit. But when he got to jail, the Lord was with him, He showed him kindness and granted him favour in the eyes of the prison warder. This favour caused Joseph to become in charge of all the prisoners and all that happens in the prison. The warden paid no attention to everything under Joseph’s care because God gave him success in everything that he did.

Joseph was supposed to be killed for trying to rape the kings wife, but because of the favour of the Lord, he was thrown in prison. The Bible tells us that this was not an ordinary prison that Joseph was thrown into, but a prison for the king’s officials. Meaning that it was of a better status that the prison that they keep the rest of the people of the land. So Joseph, was still surrounded by the favour of the Lord, because the prison that he went to was not as bad as the rest of the other prisons. When Joseph was placed in charge of the prison, he was favoured above every other Egyptian prisoner.

Many of us here are like Joseph, we are surrounded by situations that look unfavourable, but I want to tell you that in that situation, there is the favour of God. When you look at Joseph, you may say that he went through a lot of misfortunes, but what I see around Joseph is the favour of God, following him even to the prison. God gave Joseph success even in prison, He will give you success even in that situation.

When Joseph was serving in Potiphar’s house, he was not dreaming, but when he was thrown in prison, he started dreaming again. Joseph was appointed by a dream, which started when he was young in his father’s house, he continued to dream when he was in prison, to the point that his dream became a way for him to be placed in charge of the entire Egypt, (Genesis 41: 41 to 44). The King put Joseph in so much authority that no one would lift a finger in the whole of Egypt without Joseph’s word. If I ask you now who appointed Joseph to be in charge of the entire land of Egypt, many will say God, some will say the king, but I tell you it was his dream, which is his God given ability.

Many here also have a dream, a God given ability, which they should use to serve God, but they undermine themselves and they doubt themselves. This is why they don’t get their breakthroughs. Some have a specific ability, but they want to serve God with another ability. I am a prophet, that is my God given ability, and that is what I serve God with, I cannot serve God as an accountant, that is not my God given ability. You must now ask yourself, are you serving God with the ability that He gave you? If not, you are delaying the manifestation of God’s favour in your life.

In 2 Samuel 9 we read about how David looked for relatives of Jonathan, in order to show the kindness. David was now king and he remembered his covenant with Jonathan, he wanted to fulfil it even though Jonathan was dead. David found Mephibosheth, a son of Jonathan who was crippled and could not walk. He restored to him all that belonged to his grandfather Saul, and invited him to eat with him at the royal table. And so David kept his word to Jonathan.

You are all going to receive the favour of the Lord today, when you do, remember your promise to God. You must remember the people that help you before you were blessed, show them kindness and appreciate them. Where ever you may be today, whether Potiphar’s house, whether in prison, or on your way to breakthrough, continue to be faithful, in His appointed time, God will show you favour and you will be promoted.

The favour of the Lord will bring change in your life, it will make a way where there is no way. No one would have thought that Joseph would have been king in a foreign land. But the favour of the Lord made a way for him. The favour of the Lord is here to make a way for you, in that promotion that you want, in that marriage that you need, in those finances, the favour of the Lord is here to bring change. Receive it in Jesus Name.

Glory be to God Almighty.
